Change Major College football system, by Ollie Owl

Proposal to change the entire major college football system:

First - Change the major college conferences to ten teams, increase the
schedule to thirteen games for each team. There would be six major
conferences. ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12 (Conf name change), SEC, and Pac 10.
Each team in the conference would play each other for a total of nine games in
the conference. The team with the best record would win the conference. No
conference playoff games in that each team in the conference would play an
additonal game each year. The other four games could be schduled with the
customary push over games to gain revenue for the schools. Go back 10 years
and the teams that have the worst won-lost record would be dropped from
the each Conf in football only. Update the Conference every five years. Those
teams dropped would still play a 13 game schedule. Each conference would have
a uniform tie-breaking rule.

The BCS system was initiated mainly, in my opinion, to increase revenue to the
conferences.

Second - Change the current National Championship system to a playoff system
using the Bowls, by using the consensus of the Writers, coaches and the Harris
polls to decide the top eight teams in the nation, no matter if they won their
conference or not. Using the consensus of the three from 2008 final regular
season polls: Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, USC, PSU, Utah, Texas Tech.

By using this proposed system for 2008 the following bowl games would have
been played:

Orange Bowl - Florida vs Texas Tech
Outback Bowl*- Alabama vs USC
Rose Bowl - Oklahoma vs Utah
Capital One* - Texas vs Penn St.
*These bowls were used because they had the highest payouts from last year.

Sugar Bowl - The winner of the Florida/Texas Tech and the Alabama/USC games.
Fiesta Bowl - The winner of the Oklahoma/Utah and the Texas/Penn St. games.

Championship game - The winners of the sugar and the Fiesta Bowls.
